This Girl

It's been a while since I've told some Jillian stories - so here I go.

Jillian put herself in Time-Out the other day.  I noticed she has torn a page out of from one of her books.  I called her over and asked if she did this (the page was on the floor) and she says 'Yes'.  Before I even say anything else she says "Jillian time out for tearing page".  I said "You think you need to sit in time out for doing this?"  "Yes"  I said "Ok, go sit in time out"  She sat there for 30 seconds and I couldn't stand it.  She was so stinking cute, and I wasn't even upset she tore the page out.

I just thought this was hilarious.  I didn't stage this picture.

My dad's birthday was Sept 1 so we celebrated it over Labor Day weekend when my sister and her family came into town.  The first thing Jill told Unchie when she was him was 'Happy Birthday Unchie'!   My dad got the biggest smile on his face!  Jillian helped Unchie blow out his candles and then they had so much fun licking the sides of the cheesecake!

She loves after bathtime for us to give her crazy hair.  She laughs and laughs at how messy we can get it.

Ready to go to the arboretum last week.

Pacifiers are definitely what Jillian has regressed on since we had Haven.  She's always been a paci girl, but now it's a constant battle.  She's a big girl now, so i tried using logic with her.  I told her only babies use pacifiers, not big girls.  She looked at me with such an attitude and said "Big girls need pacis".  We have that same dialogue with diapers.  She's definitely not ready to give up diapers either.

Daddy can fix ANYTHING!  She breaks a necklace and says "daddy fix it when home from work". She could break something at 9am, and when daddy comes home at 7pm, she will give him a big hug and then start yelling for him to fix it.  She'll run and get whatever it is.  Quite the memory.  It's gotten to where if I even try and fix something she will tell me "No, daddy fix it".  ha!  I also use this at times when I want to be done with something and put it away for the day... we have to wait for daddy to come home.  When she saw me on Thursday with my special walking shoe and limping after I broke my toe, I sat down and showed her everything and told her about my broken toe.  Her face lights up and she says "Daddy can fix it!!!"  We laughed so hard.

Showing off her bling.

Bubbles make the world right.  Austin has just as much fun as her popping the bubbles.

Jeff taught Jillian this about brushing her teeth:  He asks her "What happens if you dont brush your teeth"  She says "Your teeth fall out"  Jeff says "And where will you look like your from?"  Jill says "Alabama!"

Dumb Luck

Last week I had a dose of just dumb luck.   Wednesday night at 10:15 I was walking down the dark hallway going to give Haven is dream feed.  I had left a file box sitting outside his door from earlier that day, and BAM I smacked the pinky toe on it.  I immediately started calling for Jeff and was so mad at myself for leaving that box out in the hallway!  What was I thinking??  I couldn't put any weight on my foot and when I finally hobbled over to turn on the light this is what I found (this might make your stomach turn if you have a weak stomach like me)

Ummm.... my pinky toe is going the other way!  I immediately started freaking out.  Jeff tried his best to keep me calm by telling me there's nothing wrong and my toe will straighten out in a few minutes.  Ha!  I love the effort honey, but it didn't work!
What do you even do when you break your toe?  We called Adir (our brother in law) who is an ER Dr.  He said since it's bent the other way I need to go to the ER.   Next we called my parents and my wonderful dad came right over to stay with the kids!!  Love him!!  While we waited for him to arrive I downed 2 advil and a hydrocodine - thank goodness I never took any pain pills after I had Haven so I had plenty on hand!

My dad arrived around 11 and we were off to the hospital.  We decided on Baylor on the east side of downtown.  Bad choice initially, but it turned out great.  The ER was PACKED.  I'm mean standing room only!  What?  We didn't know Baylor was one of the only level 1 trauma centers around and they had a few traumas come in.  Luckily I was able to go the the Minor Emergency room on a different floor and it was wonderful!  We had our own private room to wait in.... ah!  The main ER room was terrifying.
Next they did 5 X-Rays on my pinky toe.  Everyone kept commenting on how bad my toe looked. Ya, I know.  It's gross.   When we finally saw the ER Dr two hours later he told us what we already pretty much knew - it's dislocated and broken.  Great.  Just great.  Everything Jeff had read online said when you break a toe you just tape it to the next one and let it heal.  Nothing you can really do.  Well, not in my case.  The ER Dr. said I'd probably have to get a pin put in my toe so it will heal straight.  They gave me 2 super painful shots in my pinky toe to block the nerve so he could try and pop my toe back in place and tape it.  WOW did that shot hurt.  That's all they could do for me in the ER, and he told me I'd have to see an Orthopedic Surgeon asap to get this toe fixed.  Really?  An orthopedic surgeon for my PINKY TOE?!?!?!  Fine.  I will.

When we got home around 2, I found my dad rocking and singing a sweet song to Haven..... melt my heart!!! Haven had woken up around 1 and my dad just went in and rocked him for an hour!  What a sweet and wonderful grandpa my dad is!  [Sidenote:  why did Haven wake at 1 when he hasn't done that in weeks?!  It's almost like he knew I left.  What a stinker!]

Jeff took Jill to school the next day because I can't drive since I hurt my right foot.  My wonderful, selfless mom came over Thursday to help with Haven and get Jill from school!  Lifesaver!  My parents helped me all day Friday too!  I have the BEST, most selfless parents!  There's no way I could have cared for J&H with as much pain as I was in and taking pain pills.  I was pretty loopy.

I saw a great Ortho guy Friday morning.  Jeff and I were still convinced that he won't put a pin in my toe, he'll just tape it up.  Everything we are reading says they do not put pins in toes.  Well, I'm the exception to the rule.  The Dr saw my X-Rays and was shocked.  Pretty nasty break.  He said it's very rare to pin a pinky toe bone, but in my case he highly recommends it.  Otherwise my toe will heal bent  to the right and that will cause problems.

I have surgery (which still seems so ridiculous to me) on my pinky toe Tuesday morning.  I will have  the ball of the pin sticking outside of my toe for 4 weeks.  Gross.
Once again, my parents will come help me on Tuesday and probably Wednesday so I can get some rest and start healing.  Thank you so much mom and dad!!

I asked for a walking boot, which I know is really extreme for a toe injury but it will give me a lot more protection with a 2 year old and a 100lb golden retriever running around the house.

I know this injury is really not a big deal, but I'm bummed!  I haven't driven since Wednesday and probably wont be able to until later in the week.   I absolutely HATE asking for help.  HATE it.  I want to care for my kids on my own, clean up after them, play with them, etc.  Not be directing my parents or Jeff from the couch.   This has also put a little hick-up in nursing.  Hydrocodine is fine for nursing moms, but I still dont want all those drugs passing through to Haven.  Luckily I have a huge stock pile of frozen milk so I have been alternating between nursing and bottles.  I hate dumping milk down the drain.  Makes me so sad.  But I feel better knowing Haven isn't getting loopy with me :)
I'm also bummed I have to stop running for probably 6 weeks.  I love taking a morning jog, especially with the gorgeous weather!  I feel like I'm house-trapped again when I was house-trapped all summer because of the heat and a newborn.    Grrrrr!  Oh well, nothing I can do.  Gotta get my toe healed, and healed correctly.  The bright side is at least I've already met most of my insurance deductible for the year since I had Haven a few months ago :)

First Haircut

Jillian didn't necessarily need a hair cut, but we decided to take her in to get a very small trim so she could get used to the process.  I told her the day before she was going to get her hair cut and she'd get so excited and say 'hair cut, groomers'.  I'd correct her and tell her Austin goes the groomers, but we go the salon.  She would tell me 'No groomers!'.  So in Jillian's mind we went to the groomers just like Austin does.
Here is a before shot of her hair:
 Before:
She happily sat in my lap and I gave her some candy.
(which was nothing more than a wintergreen lifesaver, but that's her version of candy!)
Note her baby still in her hands.... she is IN love with that baby.
She goes just about everywhere with us.  Seriously.  Everywhere.

I didn't take an after shot, because honestly I can't even tell much of a difference.  She got many a 1/4" cut off, but it did need a little cleaning up.  And I got some of her hair in a ziplock bag for her book which makes me smile!
